Description:
SOLD..Antique 1873 Winchester round barrel 38-40. Honest ole 1873 Winchester. Has the standard 24” round barrel. It is chambered in the best shooting caliber 38-40... S/N 110887 and made in early 1883.. The bore on this gun is very good. Shows strong rifling with some very minor roughness and frosting. NO breaks in the rifling and NO rings or bulges. It feeds, fires and ejects perfectly and it is VERY accurate even with standard ultramax cowboy loads. Even better with my custom hand loads.. If you want a shooter, this is it …. No backed out primers or bulged cases. Head space is perfect. Still has the original dust cover that is a little lose but still retracts with the lever throw. The over all finish of this 73 is a medium to dark brown attic patina. The barrel address area has been lightly cleaned I suppose to make it stand out better ??? The rest of the gun has not been messed with or cleaned on just the way you love to find these. Shows some honest and minor surface crud but no attempt to clean or mess with. The gun has very good traces of bright blue on the receiver around the side plates and in the more protected areas on the receiver as you can see. Some blue on the bottom tang and also around the trigger. The gun is not pitted anywhere. Some case colors visible on the sides of the hammer also. Markings are all good and perfectly readable even on the brass carrier bottom. There a couple dings on the outer areas on the muzzle but nothing even close to the bore so no effect on accuracy at all. The front and rear sight s are original with the rear being the flat top style. The rear sight elevator is missing but I have one and will install before it sells. Also I might have a better left side plate screw I will install also. The rest of the screws look very good and not all burred up from tinkering. Strong carrier and lever springs. Perfect hammer safety and full cock notches... The wood is pretty good also. The forearm is very nice and fits tight and full to the metal all around. NO splits, cracks or repairs. Shows some honest handling dings and scratches but no issues at all. The butt stock is not quite as good. NO splits or cracks but shows some wear and small gap around the upper tang and receiver... Still fits even with the metal and not much undersized. It fits perfectly tight and full at the bottom tang so just shows the normal carry wear at the top. Normal dings and scratches but no major issues at all. No splits or missing pieces at the toe. Not a bad looking ole 73 at all and has just a little finish and a nice bore and it shoots excellent. These 73's are going high at sales and other venues but I try to keep my prices reasonable, but when they go up, they go up around the board. The day when you can no longer buy these bigger bore 73's in good condition and not fooled with for much under $2000 is getting close. This is a good and honest gun for the money AND it works and shoots like it is suppose to.. $50 insured shipping. Call 7650728-8049 with question or more photos. Not liable for misuse, damage or the lack of knowledge of loading and shooting on any antique firearm I sell. Buyer shoots at own risk..
