This Remington Rand is serial numbered ERRS 59. (Experimental Remington Rand Series) The finish is original and approx. 95% with the largest lost being at the slide stop. The slide is the rare type 1 and the address appears to have been lightly applied as the letters at the beginning and at the end are sharp and legible and the middle is not, also there is no P proof mark on the top of slide which leads me to believe that because of the address it was not accepted Gov inspector so was used in the experimental division. There are no marks other then the serial number on the frame which is correct as these guns were not part of the government order. The finish on the rail guides on both the slide and frame have minor wear on them. The barrel is marked HS [High Stander ed] on one side and P on the other. The barrel finish is consistent with the rest of the gun. the grips are the early Keys with no reinforcing ring. All parts are early to mid 1943. The thumb safety and the hammer both have a high gloss Black finish, which leads me to believe that's what they have been testing on this gun. Comes with [2] two magazines marked "R" on floor plate lip. According to Charles Clawson books less then a 100 ERRS (Experimental Remington Rand Series) pistols were created by Remington Rand for conducting experiments to improve their product.
