Description:
The Marlin 1894CL was introduced in 1988 and was built until 1994. They were chambered for cartridges that were popular in the late 19th-mid 20th centuries. These were the .32-20 Winchester (1882), .25-20 Winchester (1895), and the 218 Bee (1938). The latter two cartridges are simply necked down versions of the 32-20. The 218 Bee was particularly popular in its day. It bridged the gap between the 22 Hornet and the much later .223 Remington. It was, and still is, an excellent varmint hunting round. It is recommended to use full-jacketed bullets on rabbits and other small game to avoid ruining too much of the meat. The 218 Bee works well with bullets weighing between 40 and 55 grains. The Marlin 1894CL features a 22-inch barrel, a 2/3-length mag tube, and wood furniture with the stock having the Old West-style straight grip. This example has been equipped with a Leupold scope mount, a BSA 22 Special scope, and a hammer extension. It does not currently have iron sights though these could be replaced. An interesting feature is the presence of European proof marks on the right side of the rifle. The previous owner stated he purchased the from someone in Scotland, so it appears the rifle was sold in Europe originally. The rifle is in great condition though it has some minor wear. The stock and forearm have minor wear marks and there is a small amount of bluing loss on the right side of the receiver below the loading gate. Other than that, the rifle is in good shape. It would make an excellent varmint rifle.
