Colt Bisley Model, .38/40 Caliber, 5 1/2" Barrel, Blue, Shipped to Witte Hardware Company in St. Louis, Missouri, June 15, 1903 with Excellent Texas Provenance to a Polk County Judge in the City of Livingston, Texas.
A Notarized Letter of Provenance will accompany this Colt Bisley Model .38/40, 5 1/2" Barrel, Serial No. 245361 indicating that it was purchased new in 1903 by Judge Joseph Lee Manry, Sr. Joseph Lee Manry, Jr. inherited this Colt from his father, Judge Manry, Sr. in 1944. In 1978, this Colt was inherited by Jordan Douglass Ward, son of Joseph Lee Manry, Jr. Judge Joseph Lee Manry, Sr. served as the Polk County Judge in the City of Livingston, Texas. He maintained this position from 1903 until the mid 1930's. The City of Livingston was still a rough and rowdy area in these years. The Letter of Provenance states that Judge Manry, Sr. was known by family and friends to have always had this Colt in his possession while his court was in session. This Colt spent its entire life in Texas by the same family. Original Colt Factory Letter along with original Notarized Letter of Provenance will be included with this Colt.
CONDITION:
This Colt Bisley has the serial No. 245361 on the Frame, Trigger Guard and backstrap. Single line barrel address, Model No. and Caliber on left side of barrel, two line patent dates and circled Rampant Colt frame stampings are all excellent. The Patent dates are not as clear as the other stampings. Front sight is unmessed with. Action functions properly with all four clicks. The Grips are unnumbered but fit the gun like a glove and in excellent condition. They fit perfectly in every manner, appear to have been on gun for an extremely long time and have no dings or chips. They are very likely original to the gun. Bore is in very good condition. The gun has taken on a nice patina with majority of original finish faded away. The finish is nice and smooth and thankfully no one has "cleaned" the gun. As always, this Colt should be checked over by a qualified gunsmith prior to firing. Money Order, Cashiers Check or your good personal check will be accepted for payment. The gun will be shipped once payment has cleared. Shipping will be charged at actual cost and must go to an FFL dealer. No shipping to N.Y., N.J., Ca. As always, a three day non firing, no screw turning, etc. inspection period will be honored. If you elect to return the Colt, you are responsible for shipping and insurance cost for return shipping only. The Colt must be in the same condition as shipped in order to return.
