RARE CIVIL WAR REMINGTON U.S. SPLIT BREECH .46RF CAL. CAVALRY CARBINE. 20” round barrel. 100% original to the last screw and U.S. Ordnance inspected with sub-inspection marks on the correct parts and two perfect cartouches on the stock wrist. Excellent plus overall with most of the plum blue on the barrel and grey case hardening on the frame. Perfect Remington address and patent stamps on the upper tang. Excellent screws and all original screws. Stock and forend with the original finish and both cartouches are legible. Perfect working order and very fine bore with well defined rifling. Very scarce with low survival rate with most sold as surplus to France in the early 1870’s. Less than 1500 remained here and most of the guns sold to France later sent for service in North Africa never to be seen again. Finest of these we have seen.
