RARE CIVIL WAR LAMSON & CO. PALMER’S PATENT U.S. CONTRACT BREECH LOADING CAVALRY CARBINE CA. 1865. Only 1001 made and the first “Bolt Action” cartridge firearm accepted for U.S. issue. 20” round .50 rim fire caliber barrel. Brilliant example and all matching and 100% original to the last screw. 98% original blue and most of the case hardening on the lock. Barrel breech stamped with patent date “DEC. 22, 1863”. Lock plate stamped “U.S./E.G. LAMSOM & CO./WINDDSOR, VT.”. Stock with all the original finish and a mint “MM” ( M. Moulton) Springfield Armory Ordnance Inspector’s cartouche at the left wrist. Perfect working order and bright, near mint bore. Superb example and rarely seen for sale.
