Brass mounted with brass patch box. Lock plate stamped “J.H. MERRILL BALTO. /PAT. JULY 1858” and “APL. 9 MAY 21-28-61.” All matching and original and in excellent condition. Barrel with even blue and patina mix. Lock plate and breech block with minor dark oil quenched case hardening with balance turned dark. Nice untouched look overall. Wood with the original finish and faint but visible U.S. Ordnance Inspector’s cartouche on side panel which is also stamped with Sub-inspector’s initials “C.E.C”. Left side of barrel also stamped below the rear sight “G.F.T.” for U.S. Army Ordnance Inspector George F. Tucker. Made without provision for sling ring bar and ring and intended for use by Artillery or Sapper use. Excellent bore and perfect working order. Particularly nice example of this scarce early issue Civil War carbine most of which saw service with the New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania U.S. Volunteer units. SOLD Antique: Yes |
