Rare extra long Winchester Model 1894 rifle in caliber 32-40 having a special order 28" octagon barrel, 2" longer than standard. It is estimated only 271 Models 1894 had longer than standard barrels, which were only offered up through 1908 and then discontinued. Full magazine and standard crescent butt, special order knife blade front sight. Great provenance - Winchester Museum letter dated December 20, 1971 to Thomas C. Johnson confirming the features of serial # 167969 and showing a ship date of January 6, 1903. This rifle also appears on Page 410 (depending on your version) of "The Winchester Book" by the late George Madis !!. Rifle has remained in excellent condition with 85% bright barrel and mag tube blue, 80% bright receiver blue, 15% fire blue on the loading gate, 10% bright case colors on lever, muted case colors on hammer and butt plate, and perfect unmolested screws. Stocks are sound, no splits or cracks, no extra holes, never sanded or refinished, minor minute carry marks, and retain all of the original finish. Action is tight and crisp. Half cock safety functions properly. Excellent bore with sharp, consistent rifling and minor wear, about an 8.5 of 10. Previous owner said it was fun to shoot! 100% all original and a great opportunity to add a rare 1894 to your collection!
