Description:
Early Manhattan Series I 31 Cal Percussion Revolver with 4" octagon barrel and 5-shot cylinder. Serial number 498 matches on frame, wedge and underside of barrel. Only 1000 of these Series I revolvers were made. After the Colt patent expired in 1857, many companies began to produce Colt copies, and this is one of them, similar in style to the Colt 1849 Pocket. Popular hideout sidearm with Union Civil War participants. Original frame engraving and original cylinder scene are about 95% there, very high retention. Clear 2-line barrel address. Very sharp bore, strong rifling and bright, very little if any black powder fouling. Original walnut grips show a couple of nicks and edge wear at the bottom, otherwise perfect and retaining all of the factory varnish. Lock up is tight, very little wobble, strong hammer spring, and cylinder indexes properly every time. Cylinder has correct amount of 12 stops and all are very sharp. This little guy was not used much and is a great example of the 1st series Manhattan revolvers.
