FINE Antique SMITH & WESSON .38 3rd Model Revolver
Top Break Design Featuring Pearl Grips
Here we present an antique Smith & Wesson .38 Double Action Revolver, 3rd Model, made circa 1890 in Springfield, Massachusetts with a five-shot cylinder. The 3rd models were a fairly common gun, with about 203,700 made in a serial number range from 119,001 through 322,700 from about 1884 through 1895. This revolver was made to be a simple, compact and reliable firearm that one could carry in a pocket or a holster just before the turn of the 20th Century. The frame is a top-break design that activates the automatic ejector. These are very nice features from the end of the 19th Century! It was designed to be self-defense tool and was very popular in its day.
The overall condition is fine. The original nickel finish is 90% intact. The markings are clear and legible. The mother of pearl grips are fine. The bore is shiny and has strong rifling. The action is excellent. Here is a beautiful piece of Smith & Wesson’s history!
