Rare Iver Johnson Revolver
Here we present an Iver Johnson Arms & Cycle Works Ajax Army Revolver in .44, made circa 1900 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Iver Johnson was a U.S. firearms, bicycle and motorcycle manufacturer from 1871 to 1993. The company shared the same name as its founder, Norwegian-born Iver Johnson (1841-1895). Iver Johnson & Martin Bye both cut their teeth with Ethan Allen, then started their own company in 1871. According to Page 9 of Goforth’s Iver Johnson book, “It’s a variant brand name of Iver Johnson’s 2nd model American Bulldog”. It is a 5 shot, double action, chambered in .44 Webley. Other than the AJAX ARMY marking, there are no other markings on the revolver.
The overall condition is near fine. The original nickel finish is 95%. The markings are clear. The Iver Johnson trademark dog head grips are in great shape. The bore is clear with sharp rifling. The action is excellent. The only knock on this revolver is that the hammer mounted firing pin has broken off at some point.
