Made Circa 1900 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts
Here we present an Iver Johnson Arms & Cycle Works Lightning Express Double Action Revolver in .44, made circa 1900 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Iver Johnson was a U.S. firearms, bicycle, and motorcycle manufacturer from 1871 to 1993. The company shared the same name as its founder, Norwegian-born Iver Johnson (1841–1895). Iver Johnson & Martin Bye both cut their teeth with Ethan Allen, then started their own company in 1871.
The overall condition is good. The original nickel finish is about 90%. Iver Johnson trademarked grips with the dog’s head are in good shape with the exception of the damaged portion on the bottom right grip. The bore is bright with strong rifling. The action is strong in both single and double action. The firing pin was mounted directly to the hammer and was broken off at some point, thus a past user has performed a somewhat crude repair to add a new one.
