Description:
Offered for sale is a Very Nice  Colt Model 1877 Thunderer .41 Caliber Centrefire Double Action Revolver. This revolver  has a 3.5” barrel without the  ejector. Nickel plating, shows wear, but no flaking. . With "ETCHED PANEL".  All serial numbers match Ser.#28606, including  right grip panel.  Manufactured in 1881. This same revolver in the more common smaller .38 Colt caliber was referred to as the “Lightning” and is found more commonly than the big .41 Colt model.  These  ejector less models were for pocket carry.  The M1877 was designed by one of the inventors of the M1873 Colt Single Action Army, William Mason, as Colt's first attempt at manufacturing a double-action revolver. The M1877 was the first successful US-made double-action cartridge revolver. The "Lightning" was the favored personal weapon of famous Manchester (UK) Victorian detective and then head of CID, Jerome Caminada. Old West outlaw John Wesley Hardin frequently used both "Lightning" and "Thunderer" versions of the Colt 1877 revolver. Likewise the 1877 "Thunderer" in .41 caliber was the preferred weapon of Billy the Kid and was his weapon of choice when he was killed by Pat Garrett in 1881. This example retains excellent and sharp three line patent dates of Sept. 19, 1871; Sept. 15, 1874 and Jan. 19, 1875 as well as the correct small “41 CAL” on the left rear side of the trigger guard. The top of the barrel is also correctly and clearly stamped “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. Co.” over “HARTFORD, CT U.S.A.” Retains the original unaltered front sight, beautiful screws and excellent mechanics. Functions in both SA and DA operation. Fine checkered hard rubber grips with the famed “Rampant Colt” in an oval embossed at the top. Nicely  nickel plated. This revolver was manufactured in 1888. Antique firearm! Buyer pays $20.00 shipping to lower 48 states. accept USPS Money Orders or Bank Cashier's Check.
