NAPOLEONIC French Antique AN XIII CAVALRY Pistol
Cavalry Pistol Made “1813” at St. Etienne
Here we present an antique French AN IX/XIII Cavalry Pistol, originally made as a flintlock in 1813 at the armory at St. Etienne in France, eventually being updated to percussion circa the 1820s. “Without cavalry battles are without result,” is one of Napoleon Bonaparte’s famous quotes. One of the greatest military commanders of his time, Napoleon changed how future wars were to be fought. This pistol would have been used during the period of the Napoleonic Wars and long thereafter.
The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces have a gray patina. The markings are legible. The walnut stock shows some handling marks from the period and is solid with no cracks. The bore is smooth. The action is strong. Here is a wonderful piece of French history!
