Description:
CASED & Nicely ENGRAVED Antique JOHN MANTON Pistol

19th Century British Pistol with Accessories

Here we present an antique cased and engraved Manton Percussion Pistol, made Circa 1850 by John Manton of 6 Dover Street, London, England. There were two Manton brothers, John was the elder and Joseph was the younger. John was born in 1752, and after his apprenticeship, set up shop in London in Piccadilly. John Manton was active in London from 1781 to 1834. He began making percussion weapons in 1825. The firm used the name "John Manton and Son" from 1820, though his son George Henry Manton had joined him in 1814. After John's death the family continued to operate the business into the late 19th century with some slight changes in the name. Among the apprentices he trained in gunmaking are famous names such as William Greener and John Blanch, along with his famous brother, Joseph Manton.

This pistol features a turn-off barrel for tool-less loading and a fold-down trigger for a lower profile when being carried. Simply cock the hammer for the trigger to come out of the frame and you are ready to shoot! This is a very clever design that was utilized for the concealed carry pistols of this period, especially in Britain and continental Europe. It chambers a .46 caliber ball. You only get one shot but it is a big one! The velvet lined, wooden case comes with the original powder flask, bullet mold, cap tin and key!

The overall condition is fine. The metal surfaces are smooth with clear markings. The grip is in great shape. The bore is clear and smooth. The action on this pistol is excellent. This is a gorgeous set from a well-known British maker!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 3-1/2 inch.

Caliber: .46 Percussion

Overall condition as seen in photos.
