Description:
Serial #A769, .476 Enfield, 5 3/4" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some mild freckling within the grooves. This is a handsome revolver that has retained 30-40% of the original blue finish (mostly on the protected areas of the frame) with the cylinder and barrel having a general dull pewter gray patina that has scattered small scattered areas of pinprick pitting and mild surface freckling. The right side of the frame is stamped: “(crown) / VR / ENFIELD / 1884 / II"; and there is a further double arrow deaccession mark on the left side of the frame. Additionally, there is some light silvering along the sharp edges, with some edge wear to the screw head slots. The walnut grip has most of the original varnish remaining with scattered small handling marks and minor blemishes, as well as some with-the-grain cracks on the left side at the top. The lock-up is still quite tight but there is a small amount of lateral play in the barrel assembly, and the mechanism is fully functional. In their book “Arms & Accoutrements of the Mounted Police 1873 – 1973", Phillips and Klancher give a partial serial number listing which includes nos. A769 (copy of the page is included). This is a very rare Mounted Police Mk. II, and would make a great addition to any collection. {Ref: “Arms and Accoutrements of the Mounted Police 1873 – 1973" by Phillips and Klancher; 1982} Antique
