Description:
Serial #273602, .44 WCF (.44-40), 24" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a fabulous looking rifle, built in 1888, and retains about 85-90% of the original blue finish that has begun to mellow towards a plum-brown color along the balance, and silvered very slightly along the high edges and projections. The muzzle has some further mild silvering, along with a noticeable impact mark on the side of the crown along the exterior edge. The cartridge lifter has a yellow-ochre patina, and the action functions flawlessly. The walnut forend and buttstock are in fine condition with only minor surface blemishes and handling marks visible. There are no large cracks or chips in the wood, however there is some minor discoloration running up from the heel and toe of the crescent buttplate. The stock compartment is empty, and a Cody fax sheet confirms the configuration, as well as listing a ship date of November 19, 1888. This is a splendid looking rifle that rates excellent condition overall, and has managed to keep an unusually high amount of original finish. Antique
