Description:

Winchester Pre-64 Model 63 .22LR caliber Carbine Rifle. Fantastic and rare Model 63. Early-mid year first year specimen manufactured in 1933 with a two digit 20- - serial number. The Carbine 63 model was discontinued in 1936 with only just over 9,800 of the carbine variety being produced. For some perspective, the Model 63 was manufactured from 1933-1958 with over 178,000 of these guns produced-the vast majority being the longer 23 inch barrel vs the 20 inch carbine variety. Gun is basically in mint condition all-original, unaltered rifle with the exception of what appears to be a small area of repair to the left side of the stock which you can see in the images provided. This appears to be an old repair and the work done is very good and smooth. Only other issue is the very small dot atop the gun at the back of the frame which you can also view in the images provided and that’s it! Gun is equipped with a Marbles tang peep sight which I imagine was furnished with the gun when originally delivered or added shortly thereafter. Pricing this gun was somewhat difficult due to its stunning condition and the very rare provenance being a 1st year Mfg carbine variety. For some guidance I looked at the suggested retail value of this gun on my ongoing online subscription of Blue Book of Gun Values. Based on the condition of this gun and the fact that it is a carbine model their fair value listed is around $3,500. With all due respect to this firearms appraisal service, sometimes I have had to disagree with the pricing they suggest on more than a few of the guns I have sold over the years, and this is one of those cases. I honestly believe this rile is closer to a low 5-figure range than $3,500. So I am pricing my listing somewhere below the middle between the two. Please feel free to call or email me if you have any questions or would like to see additional images. It would be very tough to find one of these in this condition pretty much anywhere, and unless you could find something like this with a factory upgrade stock, original box, etc., the one for sale here would be extremely tough to improve upon.
