A really nice example of one of the scarcer Civil war muskets. The condition is really quite nice for this old estate "Cabinet Queen".
The lock, trigger group and the barrel have a acquired a soft even silver brown patina. There is really no evidence of any rust or pin pricks. There is some slight surface erosion around the nipple from the cap explosion but this is normal from a gun has seen wartime use. The rear left side of the barrel is stamped, W V P and Upturned Eagle proofs. The butt plate is stamped U.S. The lock plate and hammer are surprising clear of any pitting and the markings are very sharp.
The stock too, is in remarkable condition, retaining about 95% of the original lacquer. The only damage is a small sliver missing from the right forend. The bore is lightly frosted with strong evidence of rifling.
