Description:
This is a well preserved sword that measures 25 1/8" overall with a 19 1/8" straight, leaf-shaped, double-edged blade with triple stopped fullers. The blade was lightly cleaned at some point, and has visible grind marks within the fullers. The steel is mostly bright, but there are noticeable areas of mottled freckling in patches along the edges, and near the ricasso on one side. No maker markings are present, but the finish and construction are consistent with German examples. The cast hilt has a ruddy yellow patina with straight quillons, scaled grip (without visible rivets), and oblate pommel with American eagle. The original scabbard is included, and has fine, lightly crazed original leather that has some trace flaking along the edges, and visible scratches on the brass throat and chape. This is a fine Civil War import Artillery Sword, and would make a nice piece for display.
