Description:
#4983 Colt S/A 7-1/2”x44WCF, 75XXX serial range, manufactured in 1882. This is a VERY high quality total restoration that must have cost someone a whopping amount of money to have done! It is so good that it is pretty darned hard for the average collector to tell that it is restored and not the original finish, and it obviously was restored by a true professional and not some local gunshop. However, in this serial range, it should still have a serial numbered cylinder and barrel which this revolver does NOT have (although all other numbers are correct and do match). It also kind of looks like it may have a slightly smaller “CFSS” etched panel (which is also 100% intact), although I have not compared or measured it to know for certain. Mechanically, it has a 9++ bore, a smooth tight action, excellent markings, and a very fine pair of original pearl grips that fit well, (but not perfect being slightly undersized in places; see the photos). Suffice to say that the exterior AND interior are about 100% overall. There is no pitting at all and the screw holes are not “dished” as in the case of a lesser job of refinishing. For the collector who wants a VERY high finish and very “showy” Single Action that would easily be $15-17,000 if it were an original gun, this old Hawg-Leg is a screaming bargain. Other than the visable age browning and the very minor wear on the edges of the correct original pearl grips, this looks like a brand new early 1880s Colt. $4250
