Description: Early 3rd model Colt 1851 Navy, serial #7042 made in 1851 the first year of production, caliber 36, with the typical early "right side" ramrod screw. This is a highly-optioned special order revolver having original, beautiful New York engraving, full silver plating, and ivory grips with the right grip carved depicting a police-type shield on a dot background surrounded by a rope, all factory. All serial numbers match on the frame, trigger guard, grip, barrel, ramrod and cylinder and all have the factory "dot" punched underneath them indicating a special order firearm. The wedge is not numbered but is engraved on the outer flat. Wedge screw is missing. 60% of the original silver plating remains with most of the loss on the barrel, where patina has taken over. Original cylinder naval battle scene, including the engagement date and the Ormsby engraving notation, are 98% clear, with some flaking of the silver plate. Correct New York barrel address is also extremely clear. Ivory grips have yellowed some as they all do with age. They are 100% intact, no chips or losses but do exhibit typical age crack lines common to the ivory when it gets old. Minute side-to-side play in ramrod, still very tight and with a tight catch. Hammer has sharp, positive clicks and a strong spring. Likewise the cylinder has very positive clicks, rotates freely with no binding, all nipples intact and undamaged, times perfectly with each pull of the hammer. Excellent bore with sharp rifling. All screws are original and untouched, no screwdriver damage. I contacted the Colt historians and sent them pictures hoping to obtain factory records but this one is too early and they don't have the records on hand, but did comment that it is a "great, original piece." Awesome high grade Colt 1851 Navy to add to your collection, and it certainly will increase in value over time. If you have any interest in this one at all, don't hesitate to contact me as it is not going to hang around long!! No international sales. Antique so it can ship directly to you assuming your local laws allow it. Copy of driver's license required as proof of age. Payment by bank check, money order, personal check, and all major credit cards with no extra credit card fees. 3 day non-firing inspection. Buyer pays return shipping. Thanks for looking.
