Description:
The Eagle Gun Company was only in business for a short time between 1964 and 1968 before it burned down and the company closed down.  Bill Ordner of the Eagle Gun Company designed the Thompson-like (appearance only) Mark 1 and Mark 2 Carbines by patterning the action after the WW2 era M3 "Grease Gun" which used a simple tube receiver and open-bolt action.  He designed this gun to fire from an open bolt as well, only in semi-automatic instead of full auto.  He designed it to use 30-round M3 Grease Gun magazines which were plentiful in surplus sales, as well as incorporating original surplus Thompson submachine gun buttstocks to make the gun look more Thompson-like.  While the open-bolt semi-automatic design has since been banned from being manufactured due to the ease at which they can be converted to full-auto, these original guns were grandfathered in due to the early production date and low numbers manufactured.  According to the law any pre-1982 guns are legal with no restrictions, 1982 to 1986 manufactured guns are NFA items, and post-1986 guns are banned the same as machine guns.  This Eagle Gun Company carbine is an all-original Mark 1 model in good condition that appears to have been property of the Opa-Locka Police at some point, which is a town in Miami-Dade county.  An interesting little tidbit of information regarding the town of Opa-Locka; when we did a search on that name several online articles came back reporting on the widespread and long-time corruption of the city officials there.  There are all kinds of accusations regarding politicians being bought and paid for, and possible corruption in the police department.  In fact, the FBI has been doing investigations there for many years.  There is actually a current movement that looks very likely to happen that will abolish the town and close it all down for good.  Opa-Locka would then cease to exist, which would likely make this Eagle Gun Company Mark 1 more valuable because of the Opa-Locka property tag. This Mark 1 still has a lot of the original factory blue finish on the barrel, but shows a lot of patina on the upper "tube" receiver.  The lower portion of the Mark 1 carbine is cast metal, and has a gray factory finish which is in good condition overall.  The forward grip is also cast metal and has the same gray finish as the lower trigger and magazine housing.  As you can see from the pictures, it shows some handling and storage wear but no major marring or damage.  The bore in the original 16.5" inch barrel in this Eagle Gun Co. carbine is pristine!  The rifling still shows sharp lands and grooves and there is no pitting, erosion, or imperfections of any kind visible.  The factory-altered U.S.G.I. Thompson buttstock is in excellent condition.  It is free from any cracks, chips, gouges, or repairs, and only shows some minor handling marks.  The factory-installed buttplate is in excellent condition, nicely fit to the butt, and is still nice and tight to the wood.  The Opa-Locka property tag mentioned before appears to be epoxied to the lower left of the butt, and it too is in excellent condition and tight to the wood.  The original iron sights are in excellent condition and intact.  They consist of a peep sight mounted to the rear of the receiver and a barrel-band military style front sight with a center post and protective ears on either side.  It is held in place with a set screw located on the bottom of the barrel band and is adjustable for windage.  All of the controls on this carbine are in perfect working order.  The action locks back into the ready position as it was designed to and slams forward with authority when the trigger is pulled.  It certainly has more than enough force to set off even the hardest military primers.  This Mark 1 comes with one original 30-round M3 Grease Gun magazine in excellent condition.  We have no doubt that this gun would be an absolute blast to shoot at the range or farm.  You certainly will get a lot of envious looks and questions about it if you take it to the range so be prepared!  These guns are so few and far between most people have never seen this super scarce gun in person, and it should continue to be an excellent long-term investment as part of your collection.  Please give us a call if you have any questions or if you would like to purchase this unique weapon.
