Antique FLINTLOCK Fowler by WHITING SLARK & CO
“LONDON” Marked & British Proofed
Here we present an antique Flintlock Fowler, made circa the Early-19th Century. This musket would have been made or parts of it made in England and imported into the young United States to be sold by hardware firm Whiting, Slark & Company. The lock is so marked. The top of the barrel is marked “LONDON”. The barrel is quite long at 42 inches. Fowling pieces were versatile and widely used muzzle-loading shotguns important for putting food on the table in rural and often remote places. This one appears to have been in the percussion firing system at one time.
The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces have a gray patina. The markings are clear. The rib under the barrel has separated a bit but is still in good shape. The front of the trigger guard bow has come away from the finial. The stock is in good shape. The bore is dark and smooth. The action is excellent.
