Description:
This is a beautiful early WW2 production Springfield M1 Garand that was rebuilt in May of 1964 by the U.S. Military's Tooele Arsenal, but retained it's original 5-42 dated Springfield barrel.  During the arsenal rebuild many of the original small parts were swapped out for newer parts, but the vast majority are all still Springfield-made including the bolt, operating rod, trigger housing, safety, etc.  This M1 Garand is in excellent condition overall, with beautiful arsenal parkerizing showing very little to no wear and a beautiful & bright bore.  The bore gauged a "3" at the throat and a "2.5" at the muzzle, which shows this rifle has been shot very little.  There is no visible pitting throughout the bore, and the rifling still shows sharp lands and grooves.  This Springfield M1 Garand is in perfect working order, with crisp controls and a slick action.  The bolt slams home into battery with authority, locking up perfectly with no slop.  We have no doubt that this Garand would shoot just as well today as it did when it was new in 1942.  The Springfield stock is in great shape overall, free from any cracks, chips, major damage or repairs.  As you can see from the pictures, the stock set shows only some very minor handling marks and the handguards and stock are perfectly matching beautiful dark red/brown color.  All of the stock hardware is in place and in good shape, including the buttplate with a hinged trap for a cleaning kit.  If you have been looking for an attractive representative example of the famous World War 2 M1 Garand, this 1942 production Springfield would be a superb choice.  Not only would this Garand be an excellent long-term investment, but it could be an excellent shooter that you can enjoy at the range without feeling too bad about shooting it.  It is not often that we run across such an attractive WW2-production Springfield that has been arsenal rebuilt but still has the original barrel in any condition, much less with such a beautiful bore!
