Description:
This is one of Mauser’s many post-war bolt action rifles. The Model 66 is unique compared to most Mauser rifles. On the 66, the bolt sits in a carriage of sorts. By operating the bolt, the carriage moves along a set of rails built onto the top, rear end of the receiver, much in the same way the slide on a pistol moves with respect to the frame. In other words, the Model 66 uses a telescopic action. This system gives the 66 a butter-smooth bolt operation that is unequalled anywhere else. The 66 retains the majority of is finish, which is a very high gloss blue. The bore is in fantastic condition with clear rifling. There are a few signs of wear on this rifle. One is the minor wear on the rear sight base, which has bit of bluing loss and some minor pitting. The second is what appears to be minor pitting of the extractor spring, though the spring itself certainly still provides enough tension. The third is that the recoil pad has dried out over time and will likely need replacement. The fourth is some minor wear to the wood on the left-hand side of the comb of the stock. These are shown in the pictures. The stock itself is a Monte Carlo style with white line spacers. The recoil pad is a brown ventilated style. The 66 is equipped with iron sights. It is chambered for the famous and long-popular .30-06 Springfield, which has been used to hunt everything from coyote to brown bear. This rifle would be suitable for a wide variety of game and can be very useful for hunting in open plains where the shooter is able to take advantage of the .30-06’s long range capabilities.
