Marlin’s First Smokeless Powder Rifle!
Here we present a J.M. Marlin Model 1893 Rifle in .30-30 WCF, made circa 1903 in New Haven, Connecticut. Marlin was one of Winchester’s biggest competitors for the lever action market in the late-19th and into the 20th Century. The Model 1893 represents Marlin’s first smokeless powder lever action rifle. It features a solid top frame with side ejection and a smooth action. The barrel is a medium weight octagonal of 26 inches, chambered for the ubiquitous and venerable .30-30 WCF. This rifle is in fantastic shape and remains a classic!
The overall condition is fine. The barrel retains 90% of the original blue finish. Case colors on the receiver and other iron parts have silvered with time. The markings are clear and legible. The stock is in great shape with the only real defect a long crack on the left side of the forearm. The crack is thin and has been repaired to be stable. The bore is in very good condition, clean with sharp rifling. The action is excellent and smooth.
