Description:
 **********SOLD**********
Here is a great old 45 caliber Single Action Army Colt made in 1879 and shipped to Simmons Hardware in St. Louis, Missouri with serial number 41xxx. It has a 7 1/2 inch barrel with a clear barrel address. And it has matching serial numbers on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and buttstrap. The last 4 numbers of the serial number are also on the cylinder. This gun is all correct. It has early features, such as the 45 Cal marks on the back of the trigger guard near the grips, the long gnarling on the hammer and the bulls eye ejector rod. It has turned a nice plum color. The grips are very good with 50% varnish on the left side and traces of varnish on the right side where the palm would be. The bore is very good. Overall, this is a very clean gun for being used in the Old West for many, many years with the normal amount of handling marks. There is no major holster wear on the barrel. The serial numbers on the cylinder are light as would be expected. There is a slight movement in the cylinder but the timing and action remain good.
Simmons Hardware was one of Colts five big and early shipping destinations. Simmons Hardware in St. Louis, Missouri was the gateway to the West. They shipped guns by train and stagecoach all over the Western states. They also sold at least six of the Single Action Army Colts that were used by the Dalton Gang in the Coffeyville, Kansas double bank robbery. This has been in my private collection for a number of years. It's a good and honest Old West gun.
