Description:
SOLD is an outstanding 1903 Cogswell & Harrison, 12 ga., “Avant Tout”, “Assisted Opening”, Single Trigger double serial No. 23816.  The gun is in remarkable condition.  The “Avant Tout” refers to the ejectors patented by C & H which function flawlessly.  The “Assisted Opening” means that when the top lever is moved to the right to open the breech, the barrels drop without any force from the shooter.  This was implemented in the gun to facilitate ejecting and reloading shells.  The single trigger eliminated the traditional double triggers and fires the other right barrel first.  Several other makers followed suit with single trigger doubles. The bores are in mirror condition.  The receiver has gone to silver with extensive foliate engraving.  The 30” nitro barrels are in excellent blackened condition with front bead. Wood is in very good condition english walnut and the shotgun is equipped with front and rear sling swivels.  Splinter forearm in very good condition.  The initial plate is not engraved.  English straight stock.  LOP 14 1/2”  DAH 1 3/4”. DAC 1 3/8”.   Weight 6Lb 9 Oz.  Also included are the following valuable documents on this gun.  A Certificate of Origin from David Brennan, Managing Director of Cogswell & Harrison and a remarkable copy of the original Cogswell & Harrison sales catalogue from 1903 showing a full page ad and description of the “Avant Tout Ejector”.  There will also be a photo copy of the C&H label used in gun cases and a detailed explanation of how the gun functions and mechanisms.   Seldom will you find a vintage gun for sale with the original sales catalogue or a copy of the catalogue as well as what is included.  I take a great amount of time researching my collection of English doubles and gathering extra data on them thru contacts in the UK.  This gun has been personally fired by myself using RST shells,

Cogswell and Harrison was established in May, 1770 and is London’s oldest surviving gun maker.  The company has manufactured a exceptionally diverse range of sporting shotguns, patented numerous innovated part inventions and has a long and colorful history.  In 2008 the company was purchased by the Brennan family ( the signer of the COA).
A copy of C&H history will also accompany the shotgun.
