Reproduction Defarbed CS Pietta Lemat Black Powder Revolver. These sell new for around $1200. The defarbing cost $260. LeMat defarbing done by Gunsmith David Stavlo of Lodgewood Guns. He has perfected his technique to provide a near perfect copy of the original LeMats imported to the Confederacy during the Civil War. His LeMat work was featured in the Fall 2017 issue of Guns of the Old West magazine. He carefully removed all the modern markings from the cylinder, frame and both barrels. He also removed the scroll engraving from the cylinder; which is correct for a Confederate-imported LeMat. He then stamped the serial number on the barrel, frame, and cylinder - the same locations as the originals, using dies that are a near perfect copy of the originals used by the LeMat factory. He also replicates the original */LM proof mark stamps on the barrel using a die that was copied from rubbings taken off an original LeMat. The bluing was then stripped from the gun and a beautiful patina is applied to the whole pistol. This worn finish gives the gun the look of a 150 year old original while allowing the gun's bore, chambers and mechanism to remain in new condition. David also tunes the action to allow the revolver to function more reliably as most reproduction LeMats are poorly timed. The process is finished with the antiquing of the grips. David lightly sands the checkering to simulate wear before the grips are stained dark and sealed with an oil finish. The finished pistol is a near perfect copy of the original Confederate-imported LeMats. It's got the look of the originals but the bore of an reproduction. This is a great way to add a bit of "authenticity" to your pistol collection. Write Up Credit to Lodgewood Guns. This is an unfired LeMat in the box ready to fire if you like or display.
