Colt Commercial 1911 A-1 45 acp 1935 manufacturing date sold to Argentina for use by Navy.
In 1935 mid point in our depression 1000 Colt Factory employees voted to disband the labor union. The strike lasted 13 weeks. Strikers became violent and even detonated a bomb in front of the company president ( Mr Samuel M. Stones house). The National Recovery Administration ruled that Colt did not have to deal with the union and the strike ended. Total production for 1935 was only 1,800 1911 A-1 pistols.
This Colt is extremely tight. It has the VP proof symbol and inspector 4 above the VP symbol. It has the Colt 45 auto barrel and the mag was made by M.S. Little Manufaturing Co., also located in Hartford. There are no import marks. The bore is bright and shiny. The grips are walnut. This Colt has seen very little use.
