Description:
Serial #424619, .45 ACP, 5" barrel with a fine bore that has a small amount of freckling within the grooves near the breech. This is a 1918-made pistol that retains about 60-70% of the original blue-black finish that has flaked to the underlying plum-brown metal on the balance, mainly along the slide. The front strap has a smooth freckled brown-gray patina, and the trigger, slide lever, safety, and hammer retain 90-95% of their original blue with some silvering along the exposed edges and bearing surfaces; less original blue remains on the grip safety, and the mainspring housing is mostly gray. The checkered wood double-diamond grips are in very good plus condition with some flattening of the points and scattered minor handling marks and minor blemishes, mostly at the butt and tops of the panels. A single lanyard loop magazine is included. The pistol is accompanied by a 2014 dated Colt factory letter that lists it as part of a 5,000 gun shipment to the US Government, Bush Terminal, Brooklyn, NY on August 23, 1918. This is a very good plus-fine example of a late 1918 produced military Model 1911, and would make a nice addition to a collection. FFL or C&R
