This vintage Weatherby Mark V Deluxe has one of the most spectacular pieces of wood on it that we have seen in many years on a regular production rifle. This Weatherby Mark V is Japanese manufacture which occurred between 1972 and 1994. Our best guess is that this rifle was made sometime during the 1980's. This rifle is a real beauty in every aspect and is chambered in .30-06 Springfield, a somewhat scarce chambering for a Weatherby of this vintage. This Mark V has a 24" inch barrel with no iron sights, and a beautiful high-gloss blue finish on all of the metalwork except for the fluted bolt body which is polished from the factory. As you can see from the pictures, the polishing on these Weatherby's is second to none. The blue has a mirror-like polish to it that very few companies take the time and effort to achieve. The original gloss blue finish rates 93 to 94% on this rifle, with some minor marring and wear showing in some small spots at the muzzle, on the triggerguard and floorplate, and on the bolt handle and upper tang. None of these spots do much to detract from the very attractive look of this rifle. The bore in this rifle is mirror bright and pristine. The rifling still shows nice sharp lands and grooves and there is zero pitting or erosion visible. As mentioned before, the original factory stock is what really sets this rifle apart from the other Mark V's out there. The stock really is in great shape overall. There are no cracks, chips, gouges, or repairs in the wood making this stock 100% solid. The figure and grain in this stock is simply exceptional, particularly in the butt portion. The stock blank was laid out perfectly with all of the figure in the wood at the butt and the straight strong grain placed in the wrist. The hand-cut checkering is still crisp and clean, and Weatherby's signature pistol grip cap, forend, and factory recoil pad are intact and perfectly fit to the stock. One really has to see this rifle in person to get a true picture of the depth and 3-D appearance of the swirling figure in this stock. With the factory gloss coating intact it makes some of the contrasting grain and figure appear to float over top of the wood. All of the controls on this rifle are in perfect working order. The action is smooth when worked by hand and the bolt locks into battery with no slop. The adjustable factory trigger is excellent in this Mark V; it breaks with a light pull like a glass rod. There is no grit or slop in it, and it certainly will aid in shooting this rifle accurately. This Weatherby comes with a period Redfield 1-piece base and 1" rings already mounted up on it. All that is needed is a nice scope and this rifle would be ready for the woods or range. If you have been looking for an exceptional rifle that you can carry with pride into any hunting camp or lodge in the world, this is it! No doubt that the new owner will be getting jealous stares anywhere they take this beautiful and classy rifle.
