Original Lawrence’s Patent rear and block & blade front sights. Serial number 21838 and all matching. Late production probably made for a U.S. Government or State contract with the Federal Eagle stamp. Brass mounts and patchbox. Exceptionally nice with much original blue mixed with patina on barrel. Frame and lock plate with traces of case hardening with balance a very even original patina. Excellent wood with the original finish. Perfect working order and excellent plus bright bore. Other Sharps Model 1853 Carbines in this serial range are recorded in the Springfield Armory records as having been shipped to the 1st Maryland Cavalry. Superior example and very hard to find.
