Description:
Outstanding Factory Engraved Moore's Patent Front Loading Revolver with Incredibly Scarce Picture Box.
Approximately 30,000 of these revolvers were manufactured in the mid-1860s to around 1870. Very few are found in very fine or better condition and fewer still are complete with factory boxes. They utilize front loaded "teat-fire" cartridges designed by Daniel Moore as a work around of the Rollin White patent. The incredible example has nickel plating on the barrel and cylinder, silver plated frame with attractive scroll engraving, the standard round blade and hammer groove sights, "MOORE'S PATENT FIRE ARMS Co. BROOKLYN, N.Y." on top of the barrel along with a flourish of engraving at the breech, the serial number on the bottom of the barrel, "D. WILLIAMSON'S PATENT JANUARY 5. 1864" on the rear edge of the cylinder, the hooked extractor, and matching assembly numbers "JD9" on the grips and grip frame. It comes with an ultra rare factory picture box with green label depicting one of these revolvers as well as "NEW MODEL/CARTRIDGE REVOLVER/MANUFACTURED BY/Moore's Patent Fire Arms Company/BROOKLYN, N.Y." and a separate "G.H. LEWIS,/WATCHMAKER,/274 RIVER ST., TROY./Revolvers, Metallic Cartridges,/&c., &c." label. The inside of the box lid also has several markings in light blue including "ROCHESTER/MINNESOTA/1869." G.H. Lewis was a watchmaker/jeweller and retailer in Troy, New York, in the period and also appears to have been involved in other business ventures. Condition is
Excellent! The revolver retains 98% plus of the original nickel plating, 95% original silver plating, strong original blue finish on the extractor and wedge, significant original case colors on the hammer, minor marks and scratches, and some slight aging. The engraving and markings are very crisp. The grips are very fine with mild wear on the raised edges and some small scratches. Mechanically excellent. The box is fine with mild storage type wear, some minor splitting at the corners, and distinct label. Overall, this is a very impressive example of a distinct 19th century American pocket revolver.  Buyer pays $20.00 shipping to lower 48 states. I accept USPS Money Orders and Bank Cashier's Check.( Will accept Personal check, with shipping hold). 3  Day non-firing non-disassembly inspection period. If returned, for any reason, full refund less shipping. Layaway Available! One third down, balance on or before end of 90 days. Other reasonable layaway  options considered.  ANTIQUE!
