GORGEOUS, Mediterranean Antique FLINTLOCK Belt Pistol
Intricate Metalwork, Maker Marked Inside the Lock!
Here we present an antique Flintlock Belt Pistol, made circa the 18th Century in the Mediterranean Region. This pistol would have been worn on the belt as the size suggests. It would have been a visual cue to even the casual observer that the bearer was someone of status and that they were not to be trifled with. This pistol features detailed engraving throughout to include the pommel, trigger guard, and barrel. The stock has been intricately inlaid in neat patterns throughout its entirety. The inside of the lock is marked “A*R”, which would be the maker whose name may or may not be lost with time. This is an example of superior 18th Century craftsmanship.
The overall condition is fine. The metalwork on this flintlock pistol is incredible. The silver décor has a white patina. The iron has a deep, dark patina. The stock remains solid and sturdy. The bore is smooth and dark. The action is excellent, strong and crisp. Here is an elegant pistol that would have been both a means of defense or offense as well as a status symbol centuries ago.
