Antique AMERICAN Long Rifle by FARMER
Maker Marked Lock & Barrel!
Here we present an antique Half Stock American Percussion Long Rifle, made circa 1840, most likely in New York. This rifle would have made a handy rifle for the woods with its relatively short overall length. It’s bore is .36 caliber. The lock and left side of the barrel are marked “W.G. FARMER”. The octagonal barrel was made and is marked by Remington. The Remingtons were first barrel makers before making complete firearms during the Antebellum period.
This rifle features a double set trigger and German silver hardware. There is a really neat example of an American primitive federal eagle on the left side of the butt stock, imbedded in the cheek rest.
The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The markings are clear and legible. The stock has a stable repair emanating from the back of the lock to the back of the sideplate on the other side. The bore is dark with visible rifling. The action is strong.
