Description: General Specs: Winchester, Year 1890, 12 Gauge, 8lbs 3oz, Chokes Mod, LOP 12 7/8", ANTIQUE Serial Number: 26904 The Winchester Model 1887 was another successful firearm of the Old West designed by John Browning in 1887. At a time when stagecoach companies, express “shipping companies” like Wells Fargo, and law enforcement needed more firepower than the typical revolver, this lever-action, stoutly built shotgun became the great equalizer. With a tubular magazine capacity of 5 twelve-gauge shotshells loaded with a heavy charge of black powder and 00 buckshot, there were few drunken cowboys or even hardened criminals that wanted to stare down the barrel of the mighty 1887. In production until 1899, there were a total of 64,855 Model 1887 shotguns produced in 12 and 10ga. You can find an original Model 1887 for sale on the internet, with the nice ones selling for over $5000. A very rare find is an 1887 produced in a special-order configuration with highly figured walnut and checkered stocks, or what present-day collectors refer to as the “DELUXE” model. The rarity of an 1887 DELUXE makes them a much more valuable Winchester. The Model 1887 DELUXE shotgun we are presenting here is one of them, sn26904 shipped in 1890 (ANTIQUE…NO FFL REQUIRED!) AND DOCUMENTED WITH A CODY FIREARMS MUSEUM FACTORY LETTER. This 1887 has not been restored or messed with and remains in surprisingly good condition for its 129 years of age. The 30” rolled steel barrel has little blue remaining but no dings or pits, with a very good bore that has moderate frosting but no real pitting at all. The bore diameter remains factory correct at .731 with a Modified choke and a minimum barrel wall thickness a very substantial 58 thousandths. THIS IS A GUN YOU CAN SHOOT WITH LOW PRESSURE LOADS LIKE RST SHELLS OR THE AVAILABLE COWBOY ACTION SHELLS. The action retains traces of case color and is clean and fully functional, feeding and ejecting shells just as designed. The wood has no cracks or repairs, has beautiful feather crotch figure, the factory original checkered steel buttplate, and nice sharp checkering. This is a rare opportunity to own a factory documented 1887 DELUXE LEVER SHOTGUN AT A VERY REASONABLE PRICE. A great investment and a shotgun you can actually take afield or to the vintage shoots and enjoy it like it was meant to be used. Thanks for looking!
