SWISS Antique MÜLLER Schuetzen Rifle w Palm Rest
19th Century Offhand Target Rifle from Chur!
Here we present an antique Percussion Target Rifle by Müller, made in Chur, Switzerland circa 1850. Chur is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, town in Switzerland and is the capital of the Canton of Grisons. This rifle features many specific characteristics that would have made this rifle prime for offhand target shooting. The stock is distinctly shaped with a pistol grip and a deep Swiss butt plate. There is a palm rest attached to the bottom of the stock just forward of the trigger guard so that the support hand could stabilize the rifle. There is a military style rear sight mounted to the heavy octagonal barrel, though the tang-mounted rear aperture would have been the one used more frequently for precise shots. Double set triggers round out this long-range precision shooter from the 19th Century.
The top of the barrel is marked “P. MÜLLER, CHUR”. This one comes with a muzzle device that protects the crown of the barrel from any marring during a reload.
The overall condition is fine. The metal surfaces bear 90% of the original finish. The markings are clear and legible. The stock is in great shape. The bore is clean with sharp rifling. The action is excellent, robust with a nice crisp trigger. Here is a very neat and attractive piece of Swiss craftsmanship!
