Has anybody noticed?  Where have all the Fox 20ga. Graded guns gone?  A few years back you could cruise the internet or a good gun show and have a dozen choices of A Grade or better 20ga. guns to choose from.  For the last 5 years I have been searching for Fox small bores and they are gone!  The shooting public caught on to the delightful handling characteristics of the A.H. Fox 20, bought them all up, and they aren't selling them.  When you consider there were only 3400 graded 20ga. Fox guns ever made, IN ALL GRADES, you understand why they are so hard to find.  This fine Fox, sn201526 made in 1920, is one of 366 Philly CE 20ga. guns ever made, likely less than 320 left in the world.  The order card for this gun (shown with the photos) indicates that this gun was ordered “light as possible” and left the factory at 5lbs. 8oz..  It also shows it was shipped with cylinder and modified chokes, 26” barrel, and a ½ round pistol grip with 15 1/8” LOP.  This gun is still configured in the basic specifications as when it left the factory.  The gun was sent to Turnbull Restorations for a full restoration, including beautiful new European walnut stocks, all metal restored to new including rust blued barrels, bone and charcoal case colors, new screws where needed, charcoal blue trigger guard…basically a gorgeous, as new A.H. Fox CE 20ga. restored by the best in the country.  Turnbull is the best but also very costly, and it takes over    1 ½ years to have a restoration completed.  That is all done for you already.  There are some very good benefits from having a Turnbull restored gun.  First, the wood is new and not cracked or oil soaked from a hundred years of use.  Second, the entire gun is sparkling clean and inspected, inside and out.  The gun is perfectly tight on the breech face and hinge pin, just like a new gun.  All aspects of the gun are as new and as good as can be had.  AND THEN THERE IS THE LONG LOP TO THE BUTTPLATE, A BENEFIT IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND IN AN ALL ORIGINAL GUN.  IF YOU ARE A TALL MAN AND LOVE VINTAGE AMERICAN DOUBLE GUNS, YOU KNOW THE DIFFICULTY FINDING A GUN THAT FITS.  The stock dimensions on this gun are 15 1/8” x 2 1/8” x 1 3/8” x 1/8” cast off.  We can bend the stock to your dimensions if needed, but these are very modern, shootable dimensions.  The gun weighs in at 5lbs. 8oz. even with the long wood.  The 26” barrels are still choked Cyl/M, with great bores and no dents or dings, and the chambers are lengthened to 2 ¾” and the forcing cones have been extended to 1 ½” tapers.  If you look closely at photo of top rib by breech of barrels, you will see the only cosmetic flaw in the gun.  There are two very small plugs in the top rib where there was a vintage sight installed a long time ago.  You will see they blend in very well and in person are barely visible.  What a great upland gun for grouse, woodcock, quail, or even western upland birds behind dogs.  The Turnbull name on a restored gun is very desirable and this Fox CE will continue to gain value as you enjoy its use.  We have priced the gun to sell quickly so don’t hesitate, she should sell fast.  Thanks for looking!
