Description:
Handsome James Purdey & Sons sidelock ejector 12 bore game gun made circa 1928 – a really nice “Between the Wars” gun. Cased in a leather single gun motor case with maker’s label, charge card, and instructions. The gun has double triggers and weighs 6lb 14oz. Serial number 23903.   ***   The 28” chopper lump Whitworth Steel barrels are nitro proofed and chambered for 2-3/4” shotshells. They are topped by a raised solid crosshatched rib with middle and front beads. The left barrel is inscribed “J. Purdey & Sons. Audley House. South Audley Street. London.” The right barrel is inscribed “Made of Sir Joseph Whitworth’s Fluid Pressed Steel”. The left barrel is bored 0.735 with a constriction of 0.023 for Improved Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.030. The right barrel is also bored 0.735 and has a constriction of 0.007 for Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.026.   ***   The nicely figured straight hand stock and splinter forearm are made of highly figured European walnut. Stock dimensions are 14-7/8” over a 1” leather pad by 1-3/8” by 2-1/8”. Slightly cast off for the righthand shot.   ***   This is a somewhat rare opportunity to get a Between the Wars Purdey game gun at a reasonable price. Great for clays and game. Don’t let it get away!  ***   Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period and will only accept returns at buyer’s expense if the gun is not as described in the listing.
