It is a development of the Trooper Mk. V. It was intended for use as a duty weapon with target capabilities. The Peacekeeper comes with what Colt labeled as a “matte blue” finish. In appearance it is more a flat black color. The true story is that at the time, there was a large worker’s strike going on at Colt. The factory did not have enough polishers working to give every model a high polish finish. And so, Colt put the polishers available to work on the high-end guns like the Python and introduced a line of revolvers with unpolished finishes. Thus, the Peacekeeper was an unpolished version of the Trooper Mark V. However, internally the unpolished guns had the same level of fitting as their high polished counterparts. At the end of the day, the Peacekeeper was just as good a revolver as the Trooper Mark V it temporarily replaced. When the strike ended, Colt discontinued the line of unpolished revolvers. In 1987, Colt took the Trooper Mk V/Peacekeeper design, changed the construction to be one made of stainless steel, fitted a new profile barrel to it, and created the famous King Cobra. The Peacekeeper here is in excellent condition. It has a slight turn ring around the cylinder. There are small spots of holster wear as well, though they are barely visible. The bore is in excellent shape and appears to have been cleaned frequently. One interesting thing to note in the Peacekeeper’s design is the inclusion of recessed chambers. It is amazing to see that Colt was still building their cylinders this way when Smith & Wesson had already eliminated this feature (known as counter boring to S&W) in 1982 from all revolver models. Recessed chambers would by today’s standards be considered a luxury. The Peacekeeper does not have a box at this time. Even so, given the brief production period, the Peacekeeper would be a necessary addition to any serious Colt collection. SOLD Manufacturer: Colt's PT. F.A. Mfg. Co.
