ORIGINAL & MATCHING PRE WW2 GERMAN AMBERG MAUSER KAR98A 98 PRE K98K G98 8MM MAUSER DOUBLE DATE 1918 / 1920 RIFLE. Serial numbered "974X" and ALL matching. Receiver marked on top ring "1920/ Crown/ Amberg/ 1918" on that order and "Gew. 98" on left side. Forward receiver ring also has Lion with sword & shield(Amberg symbol) (same Lion on bolt)next to serial number. Opposite that three crown/lttrs stamps. Barrel has matching serial number with Nazi Eagle over swastika ampt with waffenampt on top "Waa???" under eagle and large "39" and 'S/42G"(Mauser code) below sight on right side. All metal parts with rearsenal(period of conversion to K98k style) now 80% so possible original color. Again all parts with matching numbers including screws. Original wood with no inspectors markings. Stock disc(bolt takedown device) and slot for sling. Excellent inletting so period stock. Excellent bore and rifling. Perfect working order. Nice example of honest Gewehr 98 upgraded to K98a configuration. 1920 date of acceptance so not necessarily date of manufacture. Interesting book sections, articles and forums about these upgraded rifles and the double dated ones. Versailles Treaty acceptance gun of limited run allowed. Good read.
