Ithaca Gun Company made a few special edition Model 37’s over the years, but the Los Angeles Police Department commemorative, celebrating the 200th Anniversary of Los Angeles, made in 1981, may be the nicest of them all. It’s a 12 ga. gun with extremely high grade wood and hand checkering. The forend is the small pre-war variety and looks great. Made before Ithaca got into financial trouble in the late 80’s, it exhibits quality workmanship. The gun is appropriately trimmed in gold with Police Department references and the grip cap in an LAPD shield. It comes with a 28 inch VR modified choke barrel and a shorter barrel with rifle sights for slugs or buckshot. Everything is contained in a nice quality case that has a brass plate on the front detailing the contents. The gun is in mint condition. I can’t say it’s been shot or not. There is some very minor blue wear from the slide being manipulated. This gun has a very smooth slick action. Priced below what the current Ithaca Company asks for a field gun, it’s a very nice value that is quite usable for game, fun clays, or just to look at it! ??. And, I’ll pay shipping and insurance to the lower 48.
