Description:
ANIB Winchester M1-D Garand sniper rifle. Serial number is 1268810, making this a mid to late 1941 manufactured receiver. The receiver is fitted with the proper M1D Springfield barrel dated 4/52 with upside down "P" proof and correct drawing number on top of breech ending with 555. The breech is in the white, the bore is perfect and erosion measures 2.5 at the throat and 1 at the muzzle. The op rod, bolt and most of the trigger group are Springfield manufacture with a few small parts being Winchester. The trigger group and gas port cylinder are milled WW2. Op rod and bearing surfaces show no wear. The Winchester receiver still retains its original factory finish, while the barrel and all small parts retain 98+% of the parkerized finish applied when the rifle was converted to sniper configuration in 1952. Overall the metal finish is excellent and in unissued condition. The Springfield stock is also in high condition with only a few very light handling marks and showing crisp proofs and cartouche. The rifle comes with its original shipping container with paper work showing rifle was shipped from CMP in June of 1997. An itemized packing list from CMP is also included that shows all accessories are present with rifle. All accessories are still sealed in thier original packaging to include the milled conical flash hider, and MRT treated leather cheek pad. The only parts that are unsealed are the G.I.sling and the Libby Owens Ford manufactured M84 scope and mount. The LOF M84 optics are crystal clear, with the proper and intact post and cross hair, and there are no dust or flakes present. The serial numbered M84 scope matches the packing list and all adjustments and caps work as they should. The only real blemish in the whole outfit are some very light scratches on the scope tube from the mount. An excellent example of The M1-D Sniper that is paricularly desirable in that it is a Winchester receiver and is still unassembled as shipped from the CMP.
