Description:
Colt Custom scroll engraved "SAA" revolver; 45 Colt cal; 4 3/4" barrel
Nickel finish; thick pearl grips; serial #186229. Engraved second half of the 20th century - crisp action, good markings - all matching visible serial numbers. Beautiful, iridescent two-piece pearl grips. Believed to be a "transition" piece. Between 1896 and 1900 Colt changed the base pin release from a vertical screw to a horizontal spring-loaded screw as it converted the frame from iron to steel. The full conversion, which allowed Colt to advertise that the SAA could use modern ammunition, was completed in 1900. So, many SAAs manufactured between 1896 (beginning with serial number 164,101) and 1900 have iron frames AND the horizontal base pin release.  Manufactured 1899. FFL required.
