Message: Steve.,
I bought this rifle in 1988. In 1990 , Joe Dubiel examined & confirmed the engraving was done by R.J. Kornbrath & stated his father John Dubiel did the stock and the carving on it. .

It was built in 1923 , confirmed by a letter from Michael Petrov on 6-5-1992..

It is confirmed as a Hoffman Show sample on page 37 of Petrov 1st. book,
""It is marked Sample # 20 under the barrel. Remove the stock to
verify .

Also, remove the butt plate and check for a name under, on the plate or
the butt stock. I never had a need to, which I regret

Because John Dubiel, John Wright jr. & James V. Howe,( ex Griffin & Howe,)
were all stock makers Hoffman in 1923 & Michael Petrov has stated
that Hoffman # 24 had James Howe,s name under the buttplate.

If there is a name , thats who built the stock. If not , then it was built by John Dubiel. My last two weeks of research points to John and would
confirm what Joe originally told me.

What you have is :
A Hoffman Arms Show Sample # 20, engraved by R.J.Kornbrath & stocked
by John Dubiel . ( or whoevers name might be under the buttplate)

That is why It has 3 sight options, the engraving, & all the woodwork carving.
Its a showroom ( or salesman sample) rifle to allow the buyer to see all
options avaliable. See page 37 of MP 1st book.

Aside from that see page 35. The Eric Johnson Ardmore Okla. rifle, which
was the only one M.T. has seen. It was mine . We did a trade and it became
his.

Also I became good friend with Joe Dubiel and from Mid 1991 ,until his death
in 1996, I traveled to Sherman an average of 1 or 2 days a week to help him
finish customer rifles, , set up and inverntory his shop and learn all I could of his family history. I have many tapes we made of his history, his fathers
and many stories. I need to set down and audit them some time.
I bought all his reamers and all the old hoffman reamers and introduced
him to some of my friends , who bought a bunch of his rifles.
After his death,I took care of the storage of all his stuff and sold parts,& found
buyers, for the finished rifles, to help his widow ,
Mrs. Dubiel gave me all the records , including the Ranger Arms co. records,
and all blueprints of Joes Modern Classic Rifle. .
