Rare antique Bowie knife with mop handle and a half-horse half-alligator coffin pommel. Large, heavy, 9-1/8" long blade and a strong 1/4" thick. Comes with original sheath. Knife & sheath is in excellent condition. Knives stamped Woodhead & Hartley are very rare and manufactured no later than 1849. This is a magnificent early California gold rush era Bowie knife. I have another one (same W&H stamp) with an ivory handle with gold rush etching on the blade if interested. The two knives are pictured knocking sparks off each other in the last two photos.
