Description:
This is one of the finest Henry rifle anywhere. This rifle would have been made early in 1863. This is an early first style Henry rifle without a lever latch and has a round top butt plate. The first style butt plate has a trapdoor and contains a 4 piece Hickory wiping rod that is in great condition. The rifle is topped with a 1000 yard ladder sight and a brass blade front. The rear sight is dovetailed into the receiver behind the ejection port. The blue on the barrel and mag tube are in excellent condition with a touch of white on a few of the sharp edges on the barrel. The stampings on the barrel are crisp and clear. The serial number on the barrel is also easy to read and has sharp edges. There is some minor thinning blue on the mag tube but nearly all the steel is blue/black with a touch of white along the follower slot. The spring is in excellent condition and is still strong. The follower itself is in excellent condition and has some shine from being worked. The brass frame is in excellent condition and has been protected for many years and is a light mustard color with a nice shine underneath. The carrier has not been abused and is free from dings and dents. The hammer still has most of its case color with some bright vivid colors. The lever has strong blue with some wear from use. The walnut stock is also in outstanding condition. There are several small dings and the bottom of them is darker that the rest of the walnut. The screws for the butt plate, the butt plate, the stock and stock screws are all serial numbered to the rifle and are indexed properly. The rear upper tang screw is a little buggered up. The blue on the screws is excellent with most of the screws. The screw that holds the lever and below the hammer have silver showing. The bore is good with nice rifling but it is a little rough with some old pitting.
