Description:
FINE NEW ENGLAND WORCESTER-SHREWSBURY SCHOOL FLINTLOCK LONG RIFLE CA. 1810-20. 57” o/a with 41” octagon .52 caliber deeply rifled barrel with original front and rear sights as well as the mounting plate on the wrist for a “Lollypop” peep sight. Original in every respect and an exceptionally nice example with more ornate engraving on the brass mounts than seen on the majority of these New England rifles. Fine engraving on the patch box and mounts and fine silver wire inlay on the about the barrel tang, ramrod thimble and the sterling silver oval wrist escutcheon which is itself engraved. Finely figured deluxe walnut stock with silver barrel wedge escutcheons. Original wood ramrod. Original flintlock configuration and not a reconversion and with all the original lock parts. Although unsigned it is a particularly fine example and is possibly the work of Silas or William Allen.
